How can I top up my Prepaid Card by Automatic Payment or Direct Credit?

Phone cards can be recharged by direct credit from your bank account. (single payment or recurring)

Set up instructions:

Payee Account Name: TelstraClear Limited
Account Number: 02 - 0100 - 0055252 - 000

In the 'Particulars' field , enter your Card Type, e.g. CheapChat or TalkTalk
In the 'Code' field, enter Prepaid cards.
In the 'Reference' field type in your card number (PIN) : e.g.123456789
P.s. Your phone card balance will be updated (credited) the next working weekday.

How do I use a TelstraClear phone card?

Just follow three easy steps:
  1. Dial the access number
  2. Enter your card number
  3. Dial the number you wish to call
Cheap Chat:
Simply dial 0800 552 885. The recorded voice will guide you through making your call. You will be asked to enter your card number which is located under the silver scratch panel on the back of your card. You will then be told the balance on your card and asked to dial your number or press * for recharge and other options.
 
For national calls dial the area code and the telephone number. For international calls dial 00, the country code, the area code and the telephone number. Omit the first zero of an area code where applicable.
 
For calls to a mobile phone in New Zealand, dial the mobile phone number, including the first zero, when directed to do so.
 
For calls to a mobile phone overseas, dial 00 plus the country code and then the mobile phone number, omitting the first zero.
 
Talk Talk, Pacific Talk and e-Phone:
If making a call from a home phone, dial the local access number for the area you are in. The full list of access numbers can be found on rate sheets and local access information. The recorded voice will guide you through making your call. You will be asked to enter your card number which is located under the silver scratch panel on the back of your card. You will then be told the balance on your card and asked to dial your number or press * for recharge and other options.
 
For national calls dial the area code and the telephone number. For international calls dial 00, the country code, the area code and the telephone number. Omit the first zero of an area code where applicable.
 
For calls to a mobile phone in New Zealand, dial the mobile phone number, including the first zero, when directed to do so.
 
For calls to a mobile phone overseas, dial 00 plus the country code and then the mobile phone number, omitting the first zero if applicable.
 
Talk Plus Global:
If making a call from a home phone, dial the local access number for the area you are in. The recorded voice will guide you through making your call. You will be asked to enter your card number which is located under the silver scratch panel on the back of your card. The first time you use a Talk Plus Global card, you will be asked to choose a language from the five options available and then asked to press 1 to confirm. You will be told the balance on your card and directed to press 1 for recharge and other options or press 2 to make a call.
 
For national calls dial the area code and the telephone number. For international calls dial 00, the country code, the area code and the telephone number. Omit the first zero of an area code where applicable.
 
For calls to a mobile phone in New Zealand, dial the mobile phone number, including the first zero, when directed to do so.
 
For calls to a mobile phone overseas, dial 00 plus the country code and then the mobile phone number, omitting the first zero if applicable.

What if I'm calling from my mobile phone?

If using a Cheap Chat card, dial 0508 552 885 then follow the voice instructions.
 
If using TalkPlus Global, Talk Talk, Pacific Talk or e-Phone cards dial 015 222 and follow the voice prompts. Dialling the national access number ensures that the call will be charged to your phone card, not to your mobile. Please note that calls from mobile phones, using the national access number, incur a 25c per minute surcharge, which will be charged to your phone card.

What if I'm calling from a payphone?

If using a Cheap Chat card dial 0508 552 885 then follow the voice instructions.
If using TalkPlus Global, Talk Talk, Pacific Talk or e-Phone cards dial 015 222 and follow the voice prompts. Please note that calls from payphones, using the national access number, incur a 25c per minute surcharge, which will be charged to your phone card.

Can I make another call without having to dial the access number and enter my card number again?

Yes, you can make another call immediately after finishing a call. Simply wait for the other person to hang up and follow the voice prompts which will ask you to dial the number you'd like to call.

What is a local access number?

This is the number to dial when you first pick up the phone, to ensure calls are charged to your phone card and not to your phone line. Choose the correct number for the area you are in. Remember, you are not using the correct access number if this call would normally be a toll call. For a list of TelstraClear's local access numbers across New Zealand click here.

Do your rates include GST?

All of TelstraClear's phone card rates include GST.

Do your rates apply 24 hours a day?

Yes. This makes it easier for you and you don't have to worry about whether it's off peak or not.

When does my TelstraClear phone card expire?

Expiry information can be found on the back of your phone card. Most of our cards expire 6 months from first use or 12 months from last recharge. Alternatively, you can call our customer help line on 0508 508 773.

Do any of your cards have a connection fee?

Only two of TelstraClear's phone cards have connection fees. e-Phone has a 19c connection fee and Cheap Chat has a 10c connection fee. Both of these fees are only applied after the first minute.

Are there any other fees?

There is a 15c per month account fee on all cards.

Can I call any phone number using my TelstraClear phone card?

The only phone numbers which can't be accessed using a TelstraClear prepaid phone card are directory '018' and '0800', '0900' and '0170' numbers. All other phone numbers can be called using Cheap Chat, Pacific Talk, Talk Talk, Talk Plus Global and e-Phone cards.
